supporting responsible drinking
Beer appreciation is the focus of Bitter & Twisted and responsible drinking is encouraged and closely monitored.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Bitter & Twisted is a licensed venue where security enforces licensing regulations.
As a patron of a licensed premises, visitors should behave in a way that is respectful to friends, other patrons, staff and the neighbourhood.
Visitors should be aware of the amount of noise made by them when out drinking and be considerate of those who live close to licensed premises, particularly when heading home.
Tips to promote safe drinking
- Start with a soft drink : You will drink much faster if you are thirsty, so have a non-alcoholic drink to quench your thirst before you start drinking alcohol.
-
Use standard drinks : Monitor how much alcohol you drink. By converting what you drink into standard drinks, it is easier to keep track.
NB: At Bitter and Twisted, 100ml beer tastings are available, this equates to about .4 standard drinks per 100ml tasting of full strength beer. This means approximately 2.8 tastings will equal 1 middy of beer.
- Eat before or while you are drinking : Eating slows your drinking pace and fills you up. If you have a full stomach, alcohol will be absorbed more slowly.
- Pace yourself : Try having a 'spacer', a non-alcoholic drink every second or third drink.
Drinking and Driving
- Drink driving is a factor in about 18% of all fatal crashes in NSW. This figure is even higher (27%) in country areas. In fact, 70% of all fatal drink drive crashes happen in the country.
- The majority (90%) of drink drivers in fatal crashes are men.
Any amount of alcohol increases risk
As a driver's blood alcohol concentration (BAC) rises, so does the risk of being involved in a crash.
0.05 = double the risk
0.08 = 7 times the risk
0.15 = 25 times the risk
