Crooked    CROOKED FIDDLE BAND    SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER 2011    3.00PM - 4.00PM

Celtic energy, swamp-stomping hoedown, dance-inciting mayhem and hard-core gypsy passion. These terms, and many more, have been used to describe the genius which is The Crooked Fiddle Band. Australian chainsaw-folk vigilantes The Crooked Fiddle Band deliver a no-holds-barred celebration of dark, ecstatic energy. Intertwining folk traditions with modern evolutions, this Sydney-based acoustic four-piece (double-bass, violin, drums and guitar/bouzouki) spurs dancers into a post-apocalyptic hoedown. They are equally at home in the late-night revelry of The Famous Spiegeltent, an underground warehouse party and in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House.

 mik    MIKELANGELO & THE TIN STAR    SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER 2011    12.45PM - 2.30PM

2011 will see a jammin' time with Mikelangelo & The Tin Star at the Gaol! The band formed in late 2009 in Melbourne, inspired by a love of 50’s and 60’s instrumental guitar music and Western cinema soundtracks, creatively fusing their own unique 'Surf ‘n’ Western' sound. Their debut album was produced by the band’s German-born lead guitarist and studio wunderkind Fiete Geronimo Geier at his home in Melbourne (Ebden Studios) throughout 2010 and early 2011. The album features nine tremolo-laden originals with wall of sound of guitar atmospherics and a strong pop sensibility. The album is split between vocal songs, including lead album tracks Midnight Flower and Action (Is My Middle Name) and dynamic instrumental rock tunes with a distinctive retro-allure.

Kim    KYM CAMPBELL    SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER 2011    10.40AM - 12.15PM

Originally hailing from Seattle, the American-Australian songstress and surfer, Kym Campbell, is often described as a cross between Colbie Caillat and Jack Johnson, performing acoustic, pop and reggae music, peppered with guitar, ukulele and harmonica. Kym was inspired to learn to play guitar at the late age of 20, after hearing Ben Harper play at her university in California.  Shortly after picking up the guitar, Campbell moved from Seattle to Australia, where she discovered and embraced the Australian coastal culture of surf, sun and music. Campbell may have been a late starter as an Australian, a surfer and a musician, but this combination was such a natural fit that she progressed rapidly in all three pursuits.

 zoe

ZOE K & THE SHADOW KATZ    SUNDAY 6TH NOVEMBER    10.40AM - 12.15PM

Zoe K, originally from a country town where the only thing to do was to get married or to become a hairdresser. Determined to break the mould Zoe spent hours being locked in her room listening and mimicking every Patsy Cline, Etta James, Ella Mae Morse and Ruth Brown record she could. Growing up on jazz, soul, rhythm and blues wasn’t easy for a Generation Y kid.

Zoe K is backed by her top shelf band The Shadow Katz which features the cream of Sydney and Newcastle’s top jazz musicians. Most punters comment on Zoe K’s stage presence, her wardrobe of vintage frocks and musicianship. Although she can sing like a woman scorned she is also as sweet as a fresh cob of corn with a vocal delivery that can turn big burly daddies into sissy girly girls.
